About Us
A 501(c)(3) charitable organization established in honor of Tom Hopkins, a man with a big heart who always helped others. The Tom Hopkins Foundation was started by Tom’s four children after his passing from cancer in the Spring of 2014. They wanted to keep their father’s spirit alive by hosting a 16” softball tournament at Kennedy Park on a Friday night in the summer. Papa Hops brings together a community to support loved ones battling cancer and assists local youth athletic programs.

Tom Hopkins
Tom Hopkins was a larger than life man with a big heart who always took care of others. He volunteered his time in the community and local schools as a coach, referee and mentor to the children living on the southside.
Tom was first diagnosed with melanoma cancer in the late 70’s when he was 23 years old. Thirty years later the cancer returned but Tom never lost hope. He fought every day with a positive attitude and the right mindset to beat cancer. His four children wanted to continue the legacy he instilled in them to give back and help others.
In the summer of 2014 they hosted the 1st Annual Papa Hops 16” Softball Tournament at Kennedy Park with 16 teams and rented lights to light up the night. Fast forward to present day and the tournament currently has 32 teams, 3 parks and 1 great cause. Over the past 8 years, the foundation has raised thousands to support local families affected by cancer. A portion of the proceeds is shared with Catholic Grade Schools on the southside. The funds are given to the schools’ athletic departments in support of youth athletics.
