The Tom Hopkins Foundation reached out to our family after our two year old daughter, Finley, was diagnosed with Stage 4, High Risk, Neuroblastoma. The diagnosis came a few weeks after her 2nd birthday. Finley always fought cancer like a super star. The treatment was very intense and took a toll on our family in many ways. With the generous assistance of the foundation, our family was able to make some unforgettable memories with Finley. Unable to travel outside of a 20 minute hospital ride, we decided to take our family on a “staycation” in Chicago. Finley’s three older sisters have the best memories of this trip that will last a lifetime. Unfortunately, she lost her battle just shy of her 3rd birthday. We could not ask for anything better than having these moments with Finley and the foundation made them possible in the best way! Not only did they assist us, but they have become friends and have inspired us to pay it forward and continue helping families battling cancer. They will forever be a part of the Bracken Family’s lives.

Anthony Papplas
Anthony Papplas was diagnosed in 2015 with a rare form of brain cancer called DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). He battled for a strong 19 months, all the while showing his family, friends and strangers the true meaning of bravery and courage. Anthony passed away on March 9, 2017 at the young age of seven. He is forever remembered for his radiating smile and positive attitude in the toughest situations.
Papa Hop’s supported us from the beginning of Anthony’s battle; and they continue to support us in our fight to find a cure for the deadliest pediatric brain tumor, DIPG. Papa Hop’s helped relieve financial burdens accrued by medical bills, and Anthony’s cancer treatment transportation. Papa Hop’s even honored our sweet boy at their 2016 Annual Softball Tournament by having Anthony throw out the first pitch of the championship game to Tony Moeki. They are the meaning behind the phrase, “No one fights alone”. Papa Hop’s was there for us during the most difficult time in our lives, and we are forever grateful.

In early November of 2020 my life changed dramatically. I began to experience a sudden onset of extreme left sided pain. Through blood work, CT scans, and a biopsy it was determined that I had stage 3B Embryonal Carcinoma. This devastating news was very difficult for myself and my family to accept. However, once word spread of my illness great friends and family began to reach out with emotional as well as financial support. One particular group reached out to me directly and that was the Papa Hops Foundation.
I have known the Hopkins family for many years and have always supported this great charity. So when Liam contacted me and stated that his family’s charity would be assisting me in this difficult time, the news was truly amazing. Like the Hopkins family, so many great people that call the neighborhoods of Morgan Park, Beverly, Mt Greenwood, and it’s neighboring suburbs home, chose to help in my hour of darkness. For their well wishes and support I am eternally grateful to the Papa Hops Foundation and all those who helped in my battle with cancer. So I encourage all those who read this note to support this great charity in any way you can, thank you.
